Bill Griffiths

Bill Griffiths' journey from the U.S. Naval Service to becoming a renowned art teacher was anything but conventional. Graduating from Pratt Institute with a BFA, he initially pursued a career in commercial illustration. However, his true passion for art surfaced after his service, leading him to further studies at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tufts University. Bill found his calling as a teacher at the Worcester Art Museum, where he shared his expertise with aspiring artists for over four decades.

From 1978 until his retirement, Bill was an integral part of the Worcester Art Museum's education program, teaching a diverse array of courses. While his background primarily lay in portrait and figure drawing, an opportunity to teach watercolor ignited a newfound passion. Starting with just two classes, Bill's dedication and enthusiasm for watercolor led to the expansion of the museum's offerings, with over eight courses available under his guidance.

Beyond his role as an instructor, Bill's impact extended globally through workshops in Greece and Italy organized by the museum. His commitment to sharing knowledge was evident not only in the classroom but also through private and semi-private lessons. With a wealth of experience spanning various mediums, including watercolor, oils, acrylics, and pastels, Bill's expertise shone through his acclaimed color and light courses, leaving a lasting impression on generations of artists who sought his guidance.
